Compresser/limiter youtube

I just got hooked up with a high speed internet connection. Finally getting to see some of the clips on youtube. Is there any type of free compresser/limiter program on the net that would level out the volumes on youtube. When I move from clip to clip the volume is very inconsistant. Or, would that damage the dynamics of the clip itself? Sometimes when I go to a new clip I'm like that cat on the cartoon, the one that jumps up and grabs the ceiling when the dog comes up behind him and starts barking. I just thought their may be some type of free limiter download that could be switched on or off when viewing youtube.
