On one of Hank Thompson's northwest tours, he had a great steel player by the name of Dusty (Rhodes????).
Do any of you recognize that name? Know any history on this fine musician? He played a BIGSBY, of course.
Thompson ALWAYS had great steel players on this tours thro' this region. |

The only Dusty Rhodes I know of offhand recorded with Bud Hobbs in California around 1954 on a tune called "Louisiana Swing", most noted for Buck Owens also playing lead guitar. I have no idea without checking if he also recorded with Thompson.
Andrew: I had Rhodes and Stewart confused in my aging brain and updated this to reflect Rhodes, not Stewart. Have not heard anything about Stewart in years and glad to know he is still out there.

Dusty Stewart? He played with Hank circa '53. He's still playing here in Houston, TX. |

Ray, as Andrew states its Dusty Stewart.
He played with HT for one year (1951) and was replaced by Curly Chalker.
I used to own his Bigsby T8 10/31/50, that was one spooky guitar.
The guitar was built for Lefty Nason, but was owned by Hank.
After Lefty went his own way he acquired a Fender endorsment.
When Dusty joined the BVB's he was playing a Console grand.
Hank offered the Bigsby to Dusty, and allowed him to pay it off a little at a time, so it would not be a hardship on the Stewart's.
Dusty made arrangements with Paul Bigsby to make a black lucite plate with his name inlaid in white letters.
On a trip out to the west coast, Hank and Dusty take the guitar to Bigsby's, and inlay the plate over Lefty Nason's name.
Ray you probably met Dusty a few days later when he got up to Portland?.
There are actually, some people in the LA area that saw me years ago play with the Fly-rite boys that still call me Dusty, because of the guitar.
