I will be playing solo steel live on the PBS-affiliated WXPN radio show, "Kid's Corner" next Tuesday evening, July 24 (postponed to August 14th). The show runs from 7-8pm, and my segment is from 7:05 to 7:30pm. This is a solo appearance (but I might bring my keyboardist, Dan Kleiman, along if I can persuade him to lug his gear up three narrow flights of stairs!). The "angle" of the show is illustrating an unfamiliar musical instrument to the kids, so I imagine I'll play snippets of this and that, some E9, some C6, and talk about pedals, knee levers, etc. And they'll play something off my CD (most likely, "Java" as that's probably the most kid-friendly tune on the disc). If you're within earshot, listen in. I think it's syndicated widely to other parts of the country too.

I just found out you can hear it over the web, with live streaming audio. Just go to www.xpn.org and follow the links to "Listen Live"

Don't forget your cardigan sweater and sneakers.

Don't remember a 'Mr. Cohen's Neighborhood' Jimbeaux -- maybe you need to add one.

Great thing to do for the kids AND the SG community.

Jim- be very careful on those WXPN stairs... Last Train Home's bass player J.Carson Gray referred to that climb as "the widow maker" when we played World Cafe'

Good luck- I'll be at the beach or I'd listen in... maybe I can pull in the Wharton MD repeater...

Great news! The show has just been expanded to one hour and they want it to be a show covering the history of steel guitar. I'll do a demonstration of different sounds, pedals and knees, etc. and play a tune or two live, and they'll play one from my CD, "Finally Here". Then we'll spin classic cuts from Jerry Byrd, Lloyd, Buddy, and a few others. We might even have another steeler appear on the show live as a surprise guest, so stay tuned. I'm lookin' forward to this one!
