Any suggestions on a pick up for a metal bodied dobro? I play mostly country blues on it and would like to keep the "metal" sound (and stop lugging microphones and stands around).
Thanks in advance,

Republic guitars makes metal-bodied resonator instruments almost exclusively (they do have a wooden-bodied parlor resonator guitar). For what it's worth, they recommend the Schatten pickup.

I have a Republic tri-cone roundneck with a Schatten installed and to my ear the amplified sound fairly accurately reflects the unamplified sound of the guitar.

It would be nice to hear from some of the National owners on this, they're the real deal, of course.

I've used the Schatten and it's pretty good way better than most, ie fishman, PUTW, K&K. Like aything else its about taste. The Schatten has plenty of punch but misses some of the metallic springy-ness. For that you'll have to splurge for the Highlander All three style pick-ups are the pinnacle. And you can have an active PU with external power. I use the iP-1X INLINE
in my Delphi and I can drive a room with it.
