Is anyone aware of anyone that gives a week long in residence type of course? I'm just getting started and I've made some contacts in my local area (Abilene, TX) who are willing to help me out, but I think learning by immersian would be a good way to build a good foundation quickly. I've read a lot online that people took courses from Jeff Newman, but on the Jeffran website it doesn't make any mention of that still going on in the absence of Mr. Newman. If anyone knows of anything send me some info please.
Thanks,
Phil |

You might want to check out Jody Cameron for your immersion. I know he has taught classes that last several days and the students were very happy with what they were taught and how the class was taught, and he is in Texas... |

Does anyone know of any similar courses/classes along the east coast, or a little more accessible from North Carolina than Texas?

Isn't North Carolina just a little east of Texarkana?
I hope you do find someone closer but Jody Cameron is the only one I've heard that gives an intensive course. Plus he's got a reputation of being a killer at pickin and a very good instructor. |

You might get in touch with Maurice Anderson. He used to do such.

I've done some week-long courses here in my studio, it works out really well for concentration and deep immersion in the studies. Maybe a bit much for a beginner, when it can be beneficial to have just a certain amount to concentrate on. It's great to be able to really dig in, though.
We're not set up for the "Bed and Breakfast" end of it, but there are nice reasonable hotels right down the street. |

The great Buddy Charleton teaches pedal steel at Billy Cooper's Steel Guitar Shop up in Orange, VA. That would be a real treat, if only I could afford the trip and lessons. _________________ Steeless. |
