Well, I finally made a decision and will pick up my new PSG TOMORROW!!!! I know from my postings on the steel pages that everybody has their own tastes, but is there a single effects pedal that I can initially start with that would give me a nice sound??? Also, I currently have a fairly high end bass amp combo with 4 10" speakers, a tweeter and 350 watts RMS. You think that would be adequate to get me started??? Since I purchased a quality PSG, I'm maybe to save a few bucks until I can "recover"

IMO, a bass amp. will surely work.
I started out with a Peavey bass amp, but a Boss reverb was a must. Pretty bland without some help. Either reverb or delay would help a lot.
Of course a bass amp isn't eq'd for steel, so getting a decent sound may be a bit tricky. But, it can get you by. _________________ J.R. Marlowe

Needless to say, you'll eventually want to get an amp more suited for pedal steel. However, before I got my Nashville 400 amp I was using one of either a Roland MicroCube amp or my Gallien-Krueger MB150 "micro" bass amp with a reverb pedal.
The only real affect that you would need at a minimum is some reverb, either from the amp, if it has reverb, or from a reverb stomp box.
Most, if not all, bass amps will work as they are very clean. I doubt you are gonna want to lug around an amp with 4x10 speakers. You may want to find something a little lighter. Keep an eye out for a Peavey Nashville 400, they surface here on the forum for sale fairly often, and go for around $250-$450. Of course the more you can stay on the lower end of that range the better.
Most people will recommend an amp with a 15 inch speaker which the NV400 has, but other sizes can work in some cases. You can find lots of good advice for this sort of thing here on the forum, and from folks more experienced/knowledgable than me. But if you can get your hands on a NV400 you won't go wrong.
