Bill.... I know nothing about D-8's, but I would check the guitars switch to make sure it is functioning correctly first. If it turns out that you do have a bad PUP. There are several places that do rewinding and have a quick turn around with quality work. Jason Lollar, Lindy Fralin and Curtis Novak come to mind.

I have used Curtis Novak and Lindy Fralin before. They are both excellent. Jason Lollar "wrote the book" on pickup winding and I have heard nothing but good about his work. |

The D8 I have here is also a 1954, and signed by Mary. She must have been the inspector ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Bill, Do as the G-man says:). Disconnect the hot lead of the pickup from the switch and get a measurement from an ohm meter to see if the pickup is at fault. I have an Epiphone Zephyr steel that I had to replace the volume and tone controls because they had become open resistors in the circuit. |

Why are you suspecting it bad in the first place, is there no sound, or is there just low output?
Sometimes the magnets just need recharging on those.
EDIT- duh, just read you can't get it to work. Like the other posters said, check it with an ohmmeter. |
