The following message comes from one of Frances finest roots music historians Paul Vidal. It's great news for all steel fans who've had trouble tracking down Ernie's recordings.

quote:
Dear Friends & fellow collectors and music lovers,
This is good news indeed !!
ERNIE HAGAR, unsung master of the pedal steel guitar, has just released his first CD on a new US label, Ambiance Records. This brilliant CD compiles ten songs from 1978 and ten more from the late '60s, when Ernie was with Sage & Sand Records.

If you dig Ernie and modern pedal steel, the CD is an absolute must.
Since I'm hosting ERNIE HAGAR's OFFICIAL WEBSITE, I invite you to go to the following URL : ttp://perso.wanadoo.fr/rockin.paul/
to check out the pages I've dedicated to that elegant steeler - and great man.
Of course, you'll find all details on the new CD, titled 'MAN OF STEEL' ; should you decide to buy it, you may contact me directly from my site (I can wholesale and carry Ernie's total agreement).

Or if you If you want to order it from the label, please contact Ambiance records at :
http://www.AmbianceRecords.com
or
ambrecords@hotmail.com

Paul.

On a personal note I just wanted to add that we're coming into a great period where 1960s-1970s greats like Neil Flanz, Jerry Brightman and Ernie are coming back and just blowing us all away.
With so much sad news of late, it really makes my day to do posts like this.

Wow, I just got a copy of this one, it's fantastic!

The first ten tracks are from his Midland LP in the 1970s. Ernie is very introspective on this set, there's a real jazzy vibe running through the whole set and a great sound.

The last ten tracks are from when he recorded solo for the Sage & Sand labels in the 1960s, this is his wilder sides very much in the vein of Speedy West and Jimmy Bryant's hottest material. The 1960s sides are all Fender (Ernie's Fender 1000) and Jimmy Wright a hot Telecaster wielding guitarist who plays Jimmy Bryant to Ernie's Speedy West!

The 1978 Midland material features Ernie on a Sho-Bud Baldin model, he just chokes the emotion out of it.

Another Forum must get.
