I'm sorry to hear you're selling it too!
The story about how you couldn't walk away from it after you first played it really struck a chord with me(pardon the pun).
I hope you get your asking price, or change your mind and keep it. _________________ If it’s on the ground it can’t fall down. |

Tough choice, I know, as I really miss mine. I look forward to having another of Todd's creations one day.
Folks, this guitar will make you a very happy picker. They are in a league of their own. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

I've looked around for recorded examples, but mostly I'm finding Bigsby pedal steel, and mediocre recording quality at that. Can any suggest any recordings that would give an idea of how the Clinesmith sounds?
What is the string spacing? |

Bar none, this is the best sounding steel guitar you will ever play. Fat, clear, articulate, round, shimmering, complex--these are all appropriate descriptions of the tone. Not to mention how wonderful it feels to play this guitar.
And Danny, this is the second most beautiful steel in the world--mine was the nicest (it has the inlaid logo on the front skirt).
Bob, I woke up the other morning almost considering calling you to take this off your hands, that's how much I miss mine. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

To me there is a threshold of beauty as there is a threshold of pain. They are both breathtakingly beautiful instruments. I'm sure every one he builds are equally beautiful. If Bob still has this one after Xmas... I may have to buy it from him.
(The melody of Merle Haggards "If we make it through December" is running through my head)
I think these guitars are made on a limited production run... In fact, I believe some of the parts are NOS from Bigsby himself. I don't know what his total production run will be, but I don't expect too many.
If this steel sounds proportionally as good as Clinesmith's resonator guitars, it must sound fantastic.
Mike's Clinesmith Logo he mentions seen here...

I talked to Todd Clinesmith and he has tooling lined up for all the parts. He expects to continue production after the NOS parts are gone. |

I watched Bob play, mesmerized, all afternoon on that guitar just before he bought it. It is truly a fine instrument.
I own a 10-10-8 pedal guitar made by Dave Peterson and Paul Warnik a short while before they gave the business to Todd Clinesmith, and I also own an original Bigsby, so I'm qualified to compare the two.
Todd's guitars are, for all intents and purposes, identical to Bigsby guitars, with one exception: Todd's woodworking and workmanship in general is much better than Paul Bigsby's.
If I didn't already own... well, you know. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |

My most prized possession is my custom Clinesmith resonator guitar.
A few years back, I was speaking with Todd and we were talking about how much he had gotten into being a non-pedal steel player, and he was blown away by Tom Morrell's playing and that I should order some of Tom's CD's (I didn't have any Timewarp Tophands stuff at the time).
I said "Todd, with your luthiery skills, and your love of steel playing, you should build some non-pedal or lap steels."
He didn't let on much - but I suspect he already had the wheels rolling on this idea - and look at the results!
When he had finished the first steel, he e-mailed me some photos - and when I got my first look, I damn near fell out of the back of my chair! I can remember calling my wife into the room, and saying "honey - remember I told you that Todd is going to start building steel guitars? You have to check this out!"
Unfortunately a couple of years ago I was laid off from the best job of my life, and in my current work I'm not making a lot of money, so it's not in the cards for me right now to have one of these steels.
But as far as craftsmanship and attention to detail on resos and now these beautiful steel guitars, they don't come any better than Todd. And he's a great guy to deal with, as well as to hang with and have a beer!
It's shame that Mike, and now Bob, have to sell these beautiful steels, but to quote a line from the Grateful Dead's Saint Stephen:
One man gathers what another man spills _________________ Mark |

To think that the Maseratti of Steel Guitars can be had for the price of a run-of-the-mill worn out used car.........
........Gotta bump this one before it falls out of the bottom of the page.
If Bob was takin' trades, ....I'd offer him a wife and 2 teenage kids ! _________________ Aloha,

Speaking as one whom has three that are on the way out of the teenage years...why on earth would Bob ever take two teenage kids in a trade for a beautiful steel guitar? _________________ Mark |

Lost my head there for awhile. No doubt that Todd's Clinesmiths generate a whole buncha far-reachin' wishful thinking ! _________________ Aloha,
