Does anyone know of a company besides National that is producing steel body round neck tricone resonators ?? I see plenty of brass bodied ones around but no steel. Thank you.

DonMo in Australia is one that comes to mind. Republic Guitars will have some available in April according to their web site.

How is the sound of steel as compared to brass?

Scott,

Yes, Regal makes one with a cool MOTS overlay on the peghead. They have round or square necks.

There is another one with the brand name Johnson.

Hope that helps.

Unless I understood it wrong, Johnson has changed its name to, "Recording King."

Thanks Edward, I am thinking that is correct, and upon further scrutiny it turns out they are both bell brass.

Sorry Scott

I made a steel bodied, roundneck tricone several years ago (luthier Rich Mermer owns it now). Basically it has the same differences that brass and steel single cones do, slightly sharper with a little less sustain than brass or GS.
It was very sensitive to changes in the saddle material, I think Rich ended up putting a Koa one in to soften it a bit.

I've never held one, but...

You might try these guys in Texas. I think they make a steel Tri-cone roundneck.

Their little parlor sized "Resolian" sounds cool too. Lot's of examples of their stuff on u-tube.

Here is an example of three of their offerings.
