A singer/fiddler named Clay Campbell performed at a club in Pittsburgh a number of years ago.

He had a young pedal steeler who explained to me why he had two necks on his guitar.

When I asked why he only played on one , he said he was just learning, and had only studied the C6 neck so far.

I've often wondered whether or not he continued , and if he might be a forum member. I believe they were from Minnesota.

I've also wondered if teachers normally teach C6 first.

Does anyone know who he is?

Dean

Duane Dunard, of Duane's music, played with Clay Campbell back several years ago. Maybe he will get on here and elaborate. Also I believe Kieth Hilton also played for Cly Campbell. It could have been one of them that you talked to. Both as you know still play steel guitar and are forum members.

Very Happy Yes, I played steel for the Clay Campbell Show. I took the place of Duane Dunard. I played both E9th and C6th back then.

I am one of Clay's 3 sons. I have been a forum member for several years now. I dont play steel but I'm a huge steel fan.

I just asked dad your question. He says it was probably John Lee, (Mark Lee's little brother). Both brothers have played steel played with the Clay Campbell Show. Dad says John played banjo and steel, and was the only really young steel player that worked with him.
--------------

Larry,

Do you by chance know a steel player named Elgie Hill? The Ky opry band used him once when we played at the Merimec music show. Elgie works there. It was a real treat meeting him and hearing him.

No Cody I don't know Elgie Hill, I live quite a bit north of Meramac, and don't know a lot of players in that area.

Thanks guys,

This shows the power of the forum.

It had to be at least 25 years ago, and I didn't know if I was wasting forum space asking this question.

I won't hsitate from now on if I have something to post.

Hi Cody. Eligie still lives in Cuba Missouri and works an Opry show in Steelville, near his home. Please E-mail me if you would like his phone number, and say hello to your Dad for me. Would love to get together for a visit someday.

Cody,
Quick question. Did your Dad ever live in Bland, Mo.? I recall someone by that name who played fiddle and his wife sang. Probably mid 60's, early 70's. Just curious.

Les, Clay is from Bland, Missouri. That is where Clay's parents lived. Cody, I remember the night your Father met your Mother. Tell Clay I am alive and kicking in Ozark, Missouri. Bob Kelly, his piano player, lives in Springfield, Missouri, a few miles from me. Lisa, one of the female singers got married, then divorced, and no one around her home town of Montrose, Missouri knows where she is at.

Keith,
Thanks for the info. My wife is originally from Bland and I'm from Belle. We both seemed to remember him but couldn't be sure. We left that area in 1964.
