I understand this lowers the 5th and 6th strings a whole step, while I'm at it should I go ahead and lower the 10th string as well?

Also I will have to give the nod to "day" players, I play the emmons set-up, do you have this throw on the 4th pedal or "0"? I sort of think 9 pedals is a bit much but it would be easy to use the pedal if it is right next to A as oppose 4th.

I put his changes on 2 knees.overhead lowers 6th whole step and rkl lowers 5th Whole step,i also have the splits so i can use 1/2 tone lowers or raises,my set up is Day and my 4th floor pedal raises 1& 2 ,with 5& 6 on seperate levers you can find some really cool chord combo's and neat licks that would be tought on a floor pedal.its Like Tommy White set up and you know what he can do.have fun Cool

I'm also very interested in the answers to this question because I am thinking of installing the Franklin Change (lowering 5, 6 & 10) on my Carter D10, which is a straight Emmons setup on the E9th.

Tony Prior has some neat stuff using the change on his website, and he has a lick using the Franklin Change followed by pedals A & B, so I'm inclining to the view the Franklin change should go on Pedal 0 to make an easy transition from it to the Pedal A&B lick...minimum distance for the left foot to move sort of thing. I have room to add this, and it doesn't interfere with my left knee levers so it has a lot going for it.

However, I can very easily add the Franklin Change to pedal 4, which has no pulls on the E9th neck and the standard pull on the C6th. In fact this was suggested by Ann Fabian at Carter when I emailed them, but I really need to take the advice of forum members who have this change and where they placed it in their copedent.

Adding it to pedal 4 is a lot less parts, but if it emerges it is better to add Pedal 0, the design of the Carter makes this a relatively straightforward process although it costs a bit more. For me cost comes third behind funtionality and ease of use.

Anyway, if anyone cares to give me the benefit of their experience, both A. J. Schobert and I, and quite a few others in the same situation, would be more than grateful.

The excellent advice from previous posters (especially pdl20) is noted, with many thanks.

The Franklin pedal is on 0(Emmons set up)on My Zum,it operates the said three strings.
I got the Franklin instructional CD for this change and it May be of interest to consider that You will use it with the lever which lowers the E strings.
If I had to do it all again I would probably have it on pedal4 since My E lower is on left knee right.
Best regards
Billy

I believe after the decision is made regarding placement it still comes back to execution . Several players have it split between a Knee and a Ped , whatever, but the simple fact of the matter is that they know why it is split. They are looking beyond the small photo. Learning the physical motion is still required, it doesn't much matter where the placement is.

I happened to have the 5,6,10 drop on a single PED, 0 position,(Carter D-10) I have also had it to the right of the C pedal as well on a separate pedal( 9 Peds).

Now I also see tremendous value placing the 6 drop on a separate lever but for me I can't figure out where to put that on my Steel as I do not want to give up something else.

I think that the 5,6 and 10 drop should be standard on every E9th Steel.

Thanks TP, it's good to hear from you.

I do have a Carter D-10, I have been trying to study this "change" I do need to add it, and I am under the assumption that it plays off the A pedal, thus why would you have it so far away? I am sure one would be use to it at the 4th.

It seems most guys do drop the 10th string I wasn't sure on this though.

I do agree this 5,6, and 10 drop should be standard.

Thanks

AJ, the 10 string lower is pretty handy
not only does it offer "goin' low" on the bottom end,
the B to A lowers are hip cause you get as an example, at fret 0, a root tone when playing in A , a fifth when playing in D & a seventh when playing in B
i had it on 0 but my left knee levers were awkward to use - since i did'nt want to displace left knee right over to the right, i moved it on over to 4
yeah, i jump from 1 to 4 & back to 1
i've gotten used to it but i'll admit it's probably handier having 0 & 1 next to each other

Tony I have the Franklin on pedal 4, and also the G#-F# lower on a separate knee as well... I have that on a LKL forward lever, where I can still comfortably use it with the split as well. Works for me.

A.J, I have the Franklin split and had rather have it that the standard Franklin setup. My outside (staggered) LKL lowers strings 5 and 10 a whole step, and my outside (staggered) RKL lowers string 6 a whole step. Seems to me that you can get more out of the split than the regular Franklin setup.
