Double-Neck, 8-String Lap Steel.
This instrument was built by Bob Diederichs of Deek's Lap Steels in Denver, Colorado.
#1 Neck, tuned to C6. #2 Neck, tuned to E9. Both pickups are George L's E66.
It comes with a wooden case. It's available for $750. Is that a good deal?

Hi George, thanks to your feedback, it is now sitting in my music room/computer lab/junk room.
I actually had the opportunity to meet the builder. He has moved from Denver to Northern California. He is now 84 years old! He is willing to provide lessons for $25 per half-hour.
Four or five years ago, Bob was inducted into the Colorado Country Music Hall of Fame.
Now, I guess I'll dust off my C6 learning materials, including YOUR stuff and take another run at C6 tuning. I think the back neck will be tuned to Open E. Eight strings scare the hell out of me for now, so it will probably end up being a D-6 rather than a D-8. The upside is that I can always add two more strings if I ever advance that far.
Thanks again for your input on this instrument. _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!

Mr. Boards....
Well, I did a compromise. I removed string 1 and kept string 8. I do understand about increased range but the confusion factor is too high right now.
Maybe after I learn a few tunes it will be time to change the strings. Then, I can add the string 1 back to the mix. _________________ Bluesman's Epitath: "Didn't get up this morning"!
