My dad was the song leader in our church and at revivals around our neck of the woods when I was growing up, and my parents and two of my sisters (all gone now) had a gospel quartet, and most of the traditional hymns from that era seem to have been left behind by newer hymns.
But John's new album has brought them back. His spiritual and emotional interpretation of those hymns, combined with his superb playing, has revived those childhood memories of mine of family, church, happy times, and even those times when they were sung as we said goodby to loved ones.
This album is going to be a classic that will always be one of my favorites. www.genejones.com |

Hi Gene Jones,
It was a pleasure to get to meet you at the Tulsa show this past week-end. I felt like I already knew you from the stories that Conway
used to tell. (Good stories)
Thanks so much for the compliments on my new Gospel CD.
My Mother and her family used to sing all of these old songs and they just stuck in my mind as I sang them in church while growing up. Sure glad you enjoyed them.
Hope to see you again somewhere down the road.
Take care.
God Bless,
John Hughey |

I bought this CD at the Tulsa show, too. John's playing on these great gospel standards is superb. He must have truly felt a divine inspiration while recording these songs. You can certainly feel it when you listen to these songs. I also purchased the rhythym tracks because I am a beginning steel player that plays in church. |

I saw John (and had my pic taken w/ him) last Sat. at the Mn Steel Guitar convention in Forest Lake. His new CD "He Touched Me" is great. He also has the rhythm tracks on CD available. www.johnhughey.com |
