Here is a song that I wrote with singer Jessie. "Southern" is southern Australia and the photos are of the hills around Adelaide where most of us are from.

These hills are like a tinderbox at the present, in the middle of summer and we are hoping we don't get a fire.
It's been 40 degrees C for the last week with no respite forecast. That's about 104 F. We would love a little respite.

The band goes for an "acoustic" sound using Fishman pickups and preamps. I use an Aura for the dobro. The latest Fishman dobro bridge pickup is a great improvement IMO.

Thanks Guy. I'm at the other end of the Empire in more ways than one. Here it's been a long winter in the minus 40C range just now showing signs of breaking. I'd gladly send a little of our precipitation your way but I don't think you'd appreciate it. Cheers to the southern hemisphere...nice tune nicely done.

Thanks for those generous comments. I'd love a little snow right now, Terry, but the closest thing would be a cold beer.

One of the gigs in the photos was in Whyalla, about 150 miles north, towards the desert. We rehearsed during the day under cover but about 4pm the sun came out passed the cover and started to beat down. I couldn't leave the rehearsal but I should have. The resonator got really hot. The body must have shrunk in the heat because next day you could just lift the T strainers out. The luthier, Brian de Gruchy, suggested lettuce leaves in the case to try to recondition the wood. It seemed to work but from now on "no shade, no play!"

Hey Guy...hope you see this. I noticed on the news that southern Australia is in pretty dire straits what with the fires and all. Hopefully everything is alright in Adelaide and that the hot weather has broken at least a bit. Cheers

We have been lucky here, Terry. The fires are on the same latitude about 300 miles across the border in Victoria. We had the same weather pattens though, and may be next year it will be our turn. It's been about 25 years since our last big burn.

We had a week of 100 degrees plus then more with strong winds, same as Victoria. The reports are that the fire front was moving up to 40mph in heavily wooded country, just running along the canopy of the eucalyptus trees. The poor folks didn't have a chance. Many died in cars trying to flee.

The heat is broken now much to everyone's relief. Thanks for your concern.
