A Slack Key Guitar song and a pretty one at that!
I became aware of it upon hearing Chet Atkins
arrangement.
It is done on six string E6th tuning with the high
G# and is included in my E6th Lap Steel Course.

Hi Bill,
Actually that cut was done on a Six String National
Dynamic but the steel in the pic is a Gibson.
Hey, I had a line on a fourteen stringer for you
which was advertised here in Nova Scotia last year.
Upon inquiry I learned it was sold to a chap in Newfoundland who put two tunings on it leaving
2 string spaces open in the middle for seperation.
This was a Pedal Steel and was well built. I considered it at the time but I it's way to late
for me to go that way.
You are playing some heavy stuff these days on
judging from your current threads. _________________ Custom Tabs Various Tunings

Never too late!
You always get your signature sound! I thought you might have played the Gibson along with your CA Gibson.
Thanks for thinking about me and the 14 string. I will find one...or just add a couple.
Nice playing as always. |

A beautiful version! For the sake of the perpetuation of the Hawaiian language, let's correct the wrong Chet did when he recorded it. The title is one word with a glottal stop, or `okina, like so:
Pu`uanahulu
It was not written strictly for slack key. It is a traditional Hawaiian song called a mele pana - a song about a place. It is often associated with Gabby Pahinui whom Chet greatly admired. But it was not written as an instrumental for slack key guitar and actually has a very beautiful lyric. _________________ For the best in vintage Hawaiian music - featuring plenty of steel guitar - listen to...

Many thanks James and Bill for the nice
comments and especially for correcting the
language entitlements.

Roy,
Hey nice job with Pu'uanahulu, this is just such a sweet melody, it sounds great no matter who's playing it.
I can tell you took your inspiration from the Chet Atkins version. I have the TAB book to Almost Alone and learned Chet's version.
Chet does chord changes that are unique to his arrangement, which you won't find in most, if not any, Hawaiian renditions.
Chet's version is much more difficult to play too. _________________ Lap-n-Console Steel Guitar Lessons |
