Johnny Paycheck & Conway Twitty was proud of " Marty Martel ". Marty Martel had some great Steel Guitar on his records that I use's to promote for Brite Stars own " Tex Clark " when I was a West Coast Repersentative. Even old Jimmy Skinner Too! Oh yes, also for " Sonny Martin ". Leo J.Eiffert,Jr. PS: Marty should play some of his records on his Jones Country Radio Show!

Yeah, it's too bad his personality and the way he treated his band didn't match his talent.

Denny I saw him in action years back. I also have a good friend that worked for him that will attest to it.

Are we talking about "Marty Martel" that I played guitar for in (Nashville)1976? The steel player in the band at that time was Bruce Brooks from Rever Mo.
I went to work with them after (Guitar player) Roger Miller quit. I played with them for about three months, and left them (mutual agreement) and Roger Miller went back to work with them.
The one I worked with, liked to wear them one piece (Think Elvis) jump suits. We played in New York, Penn. Kentucky, and some of those area States.
One thing about it, we did play some Faron Young, and Billy Walker shuffles. I wondered what ever happened to him.

Marty had Hughey play on some stuff, "Born to Booze" and other things. Marty was not a good band leader, friend, whatever. Paychecks son is really torqued at Marty for not keeping his end of the deal. Maybe he mellowed but not a good friend in the 70's. Sorry, that is how I feel.

Roger, you have the right to your opinion. To me,if your telling how you feel about somebody and you're letting the world know, than I think you sure beable to face that person you are talking about in person. It's to bad some business deals got bad. But,that just how the world works. It's like no matter how hard you try to help someone.Sometimes they just don't want it. I've been trying to heal this Nashville-L.A. thing of the Music Business for a Museum, and all them people can do is try to run me down for telling the truth. So,I know how you feel about your words Roger. Just saw this post by accident so I had to chime in.

When Marty lived in Columbus, Oh. I played bass for him in the early 60's and My pedal steel teacher Tom Kiley played steel. Tom went on to work for Roy Drusky. After doing 4 years with uncle sam I went back to Ohio and started back with Marty as the steel guitarist playing the same Sho-bud Tom used to play.

I always enjoyed the professionalism when working with him and he always carried a tight band. He had a reputation around town of being really being difficult to work with.

Back the he had a single out "Everblue" with Lloyd Green doing steel work.

Chuck, Our paths have crossed again.LOL
