Check out Gov. Mike Huckabee's program today on Fox News Cable Channel. Mike has James Burton playing with his band in celebration of Elvis Presley's birthday.
Burton is still in fine form. I am not a bass player, but Gov. Huckabee seems to know what he's doing when he plays his base and sounds good to me. |

Hey Billy, I watched that show last night on Fox News Channel. It was good to see ol' James B. in action and I liked the instrumental version of "Love Me Tender" he did. When they did "Mystery Train" the daggone singer/rhythm guitarist kept jumping the meter which drove me nuts as that's one of my favorite all time Elvis tunes!
Mike Huckabee's a pretty fair bass player but you can tell by his fingering that he played guitar for a long time before he took up bass. When he'd do a walking pattern in A, instead of fingering the A note on the 4th string at the 5th fret with his middle finger and then the C# at the 4th fret on the 3rd string with his index finger, he'd play the A with his index finger and then jump up the the C# on the same string for the second note of the scale. I see a lot of self taught bass players do that but who am I to criticize? I love Huckabee's politics so that makes anything he does OK with me........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

Looked like he was having fun.
He was REALLY playing on Brad Paisley's latest album "Play" on one cut. It doesn't ID his "ride", but does ID him on his "tag".
Worth the price of the album for Burton fans just for the small parts.

Huckabee's band should be on a local "Cable" channel...of the "Public Access" kind!!
He seems like a pretty decent fellow that doesn't take things too seriously...(Good thing!!) |

I watched last evening's program and was
impressed to see James Burton still play
just as superbly as he did years ago!
Mike Huckabee is an all-around decent man
who I respect and admire very much. Politics
aside, he has added a lot of positive value to
the mainstream media that otherwise did not
exist before. And, yes, I am a Republican;
hate me if you must! I am used to it by now.
So is Mike Huckabee.
Great show last night!

Check out the last Jim Lauderdale CD 'Honeysongs' with James B. on it, it is very good. The bonus is also Al Perkins on steel.
The Brad Paisley CD is most excellent!! _________________ Regards, Craig

Eric,
Over at the Tele forum Brent Mason's wife posting who plays where on the Brad Paisley "Clusterpluck" cut. It's nominated for a Grammy. Might give me a reason to start watching again. |
