"Pick Me Up On Your Way Down"

I've been trying to play that great solo in the middle of Charlie Walker's version of "Pick Me Up On Your Way Down" using E13th non-pedal. (was this possibly Jimmy Day?) Sounds like early AB pedals, but I think it can be pulled off with quick slanting. Is this too much to expect from a non-pedal steel?
