I have recently put up a topic that talks about the way we refer to tunings. The question came up again as to what is the prefered basic 8 string C6 tuning. So which one do you use? Tunings are from bottom to top. I refer to the first as orchestra tuning. And I refer to the second as Helms/Seymore tuning. But for purposes of the poll, the notes are listed.

I started on 8 string in A6 - "orchestra tuning"

I am now working on C6 with the same intervals, but with two added strings on top - the 2nd and 4th intervals. This gives (from lo to hi) 6,1,3,5,6,1,3,5,2,4 (A,C,E,G,A,C,E,G,D,F)....the 2 and 4 on top are tuned lower than 3 and 5 ... if that makes sense!
