An idea I came up with, just a piece of 1/8" aluminum scrap with a slot cut in it with the opening rounded a little. Works real well and does not scratch the contact surface. If you like your fingerpicks to form fit your finger, like I do, it works very well.

I put them on my actual fingers and do the same thing.

I just use a pair of needle nose pliers for shaping both the part which contacts the strings and the part(s) going around your finger, works very well....JH in Va.

Mine usually get shaped when one falls off and I step on it while searching for it in the darkness of the club ....
