No steel credits on the album. Not much steel there, really, but if I had to guess, I'd say Buddy or Weldon. |

Does the album cover say where it was recorded? That might help. _________________ Ellis Miller

Well, if anything were to scare off any potential new Forum members under the age of 60 who are visiting here - it would be the title of this thread! _________________ Mark |

Bobby Helms sold millions plus on this song and also "Fraulein" and his classic "Jingle Bell Rock."
I think that he just passed away three or four years ago.
You are "My Special Angel" was always one of the best songs, I thought in that style from that era.
Bobby Helms also had a cut on "Silver Threads and Golden Needles" long before pretty Linda Ronstandt's classic version.
Mr. Vinton may have recorded it and others did, but Bobby Helms had the special touch on it in my opinion.

Bobby Vinton Sings the Golden Decade of Love- 1975- has Special Angel on it but I'm not sure this was the version with steel on it (just seemed to me I heard his version earlier than the late 80's). |

Let me rephrase that statement...I remember when Weldon cut an album with Bobby Vinton, because he mentioned it to me(late'80's,I think)...he didn't mention that song specifically...sorry. _________________ http://www.myspace.com/stevehinsonnashville |

I remember being on a plane with the Eddie Rabbitt band around '88, and Vinton and his manager were on the same flight. They tried to talk our band leader into having our band quit Eddie and come to work for Bobby Vinton because he'd just cut a country album, which fits what Steve's saying about Weldon...
Didn't happen though! Eddie's career was a little past it's peak at that point, but he was still filling big halls and having number one records; it didn't seem like a good career move somehow!
I don't know about that song though... |
