Our daughter gave us a Microsoft VX-6000 webcam for Christmas, it worked perfectly the first time, but the next time we used it, the built-in microphone wouldn't work.
I went to the menu, and navigated to the microphone input level, but the slider keeps going back to zero as soon as the cursor releases it.
Anyone have any experience with these webcams?? |

I've tried that, Wiz, but still no joy
Could it be that I need a more powerful computer?
I keep getting a message that the computer is low on virtual memory.
My computer has 256 RAM, do I need to upgrade? |

Yes, you should upgrade your RAM to at least 512+ Mb for Windows 2000, or 1+ Gb for Windows XP, or 2+ Gb for Windows Vista. Also, if you keep getting low Virtual Memory messages you will need to change the Performance settings for the computer, so it can use more of your hard drive for temporary data storage, when your RAM is all used.
Performance settings are found by right-clicking on My Computer, Performance tab. There you can change how Windows allots memory and how windows are drawn, plus you can change the Virtual Memory option to - "Let Windows manage my virtual memory settings (Recommended)." _________________ "Wiz" Feinberg, Moderator SGF Computers Forum

Richard, also make sure you have the most recent version of the software for the camera. The one on the disc might have had a problem that's been fixed since. Not always true but worth a shot. You can get that here:
http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/download/download.aspx?category=ICE
You will have to put in the camera model and the version of Windows, etc. You will most likely want the version that says XP, 32-bit.
Also this might sound weird but try a different USB port, especially if you were using one on the front of the case or one on a monitor, keyboard, or hub. Sometimes the "extra" ones don't carry as much current and are slower. This may or may not be true in your case but it's something to check out, anyway.
This is all separate from the virtual memory problem, for which you should follow what Wiz said...make sure the virtual memory setting is correct and consider adding some RAM to the machine. |
