Have you tried a local bike shop?

I'm a long time cyclist, have been around the bike business a bit, and bike mechanics have used the stuff for decades.

I've tried a bunch of alternatives, and for me there is no substitute for Tri-Flow.

Ditto on the bicycle shops. I can't remember the last time I was in a bicycle shop that didn't sell Tri-Flow. In fact, they're the only places to get it around here in this major university town.

You can get it online in a lot of places - last I looked, even amazon.com had it. It's great to be able to get a $10-12 can for $3-6 like with some online stores, but then you have to deal with shipping and so on. But if that was the only way, I'd do it.

Tri-Flo is (has been) displaced in many bike shops in favor of some more recent, high-tech lubricants - some with Teflon, some without. I'm a bike nut myself, and I've been using other things in recent years that give better performance (on the bike).

I use different kinds of chain lubes and so forth, but whenever I walk into a bike shop around here, I can still smell Tri-Flow around the repair areas.

Why go to bike shops? Bill Rudolph (Williams Guitar Co.) sells a high quality teflon lube in a needle tipped applicator tube. I just ordered some from him.

PS, also ask him about his rockwell-hardened stainless steel tone bars.

Speaking of Tri-Flow,

A friend stopped by who had picked up two, 2.0 oz. bottles, and dropped one off to me today.

The bottle label reads:
------------------------
TRI-FLOW

SUPERIOR
LUBRICANT

Penetrates & Protects
Formulated with P.T.F.E.

------------------------

The rear label reads:
----------------------
Copyright 2007 The Sherwin-Williams Company
Consumer Group - Industrial. Cleveland,OH 44115

Made in U.S.A. / Hecho en EE.UU. LTF2101OC

------------------------------------------

I believe the Bike Shop, sold him the wrong stuff. I know he'd told them he wanted the one with TEFLON.

This sounds more to me, as a Penetrating and cleaning formula, than it does a Teflon Lubricant. I don't see the word "TEFLON" on the bottle anywhere.

Apparently, this is not the TRI-FLOW that's been discussed here: TRI-FLOW with TEFLON, on the Label.

Has anyone ever used this, to see how well it cleans?

Thanks,
Don

PTFE is the short name for poly-tetra-fluoro-ethylene. We call it Teflon.

Nylon is hexa-deca-methylene di-carboxylate, FWIW.

HNDP or Hexa-nitro-dipheynle-amine is the high explosive used in German magnetic mines of WW2.

dichloro-diphenyle-trichloro-ethane is DDT, a common bug eliminator, not to be confused with the CP/M operating system bug eliminator also called DDT which attacked and eliminated a mutually-exclusive type of bug!

Have to go now...I am off to the doctor to get my head lanced! Smile

Yup - PTFE is Teflon. Tri-Flow comes in both a spray can and a drip bottle. I keep one of each handy. The spray's useful when you need to get to something that's hard to reach. I prefer the drip when I just want to get a single drop somewhere.

Just FYI - Years ago, I used to use pure Teflon that was sold by DuPont to the bike industry. Best lube ever - lasted forever. Completely dry. Didn't pick up dirt...nothing. Can't get it like that anymore.

Steve, maybe using the DuPont stuff is what made half your head disappear. rim shot please
But seriously folks.

Don, The triflow works pretty well flushing out the gunk.
I'm not sure what lube Charlie puts in the changer of the Derby but it always bleeds up when I play even after 2 years. The tri flow keeps it clean.

I'm currently using Remington gun oil with teflon. Just wondering, how does it compare with Triflow?

The gun oil leaves more oil, which will pick up dirt, gumming the works. You'll eventually need to flush everything out with solvent.

A good alternative to Tri Flow is Pedro's Extra Dry, also available at bike shops.
