In case anybody's interested, I'm playing with a really good band this weekend (Mar9-10) at "Ron's Red Eye" in Fallbrook CA.
"The Runnin" Kind"....the only band that I'm proud enough to post here on the forum. |

Hey Rick Schmidt, This is Cathi Parson. Friend of Eddy Mattos and former Western Connection enthusiast. I was a fan of West Coast Flyers. I was always askin you guys to play San Antonio Rose. You pulled it off like champs. We were sad to see you leave the band as your steel guitar playin was the highlight. I'm also the President of the So. Calif. Western Swing Music Society. I recently saw your posting and read of your dismay at missing our Inaugural event on Feb. 18th in Chino. It was a hoot. We'll be givin it another shot on April 8th at Montana's (formerly, well, you know) Our good friend Eddy won't be there but we'd sure love to have your support. We're also gonna try and check out your gig in Fallbrook? this weekend. Also, can you email me back and fill me in on the goins on at Loretta's on Sunday nights? I'm always on the lookout for talent to showcase at our events. Thanks Rick. C. Parson SCWSMS |

Skip,
I called last night and got an address of 1448 S. Mission Bl, Fallbrook 760) 728-4881. I've never been there so perhaps Rick can confirm that this is the correct place. |

Hey guys...thanks for your interest! We kicked butt last night against all odds...hahaha.
Fallbrook is about 10 minutes past Temecula on the I-15 South. We're playing at a place
( a dive) called Ron's Red Eye...... After you get off the Fallbrook/Mission offramp, you turn right and drive a few miles before you get into the town of Fallbrook.
Take "Mission" ( the main drag ) all the way through town....look for the Jack in the Box on the right.....Ron's is right across the street, up a flight of stairs, up on a hill. The locals park in back. We start at 8:30.... For me, playing with these guys is definitely for the soul. Kind of a mutual admiration society. I'm going broke everytime I book a weekend with them, but I have sooo much fun! Maybe we'll see you there....Rick[This message was edited by Rick Schmidt on 10 March 2001 at 10:18 AM.] |

Hey Rick, the Runnin Kind kicked ass Saturday night at Ron's Red Eye!! Well worth the 2 hour drive from Mayberry aka Glendora USA. You could definitely tell there was a "love fest" goin on. I felt the love on the dance floor as well. It's so refreshing to see musicians (especially steel players) smile while they're playin. Keep it up and keep us all informed as to future gigs. Tight music like that is rare and well worth the travel time. Keep Swingin!! Cath |

Cathi...thanks again for making the drive! Yikes!!!... 2 hours!!! Thanks to Bill Tauson too... it was great seeing ya'll out there in the boonies!
We were having alot of fun as usual. We figure when the pay is so mediocre, we might as well have TONS of fun to compensate....
Just think of how much fun we'd have if we played for free!!!! |

Playin for free? Havin that much damn fun would get us all arrested. But it would be worth it. BTW, who'd be ballsy enough to ask such a thing? CP |

I have to admit, that was some of the best picking that I've seen in a long time. For those steelers in the area who couldn't make it, you NEED to catch the next one. Rick on steel and Bob on guitar was a killer combination.
Great job buddy!! |

thanks Bill...it was great to see you there! Yeah Bob Ryan is a monster aint he?!!! For those of you who don't know him, he's brother of forum member ( & steel wiz) Kevin Ryan and guitarist for Heather Myles. The boy's on fire!
He & I have gotten to travel all over the world with Heather, & even got to play together at the Grand Ole Opry ( with Leon Rhodes even!!!).... & to think I was almost late. |
