Hey there..........
You sure do get around good on that B11th tuning.
Some really fine sounding chords..........
I was particularly enthralled by the rythmn section. Were they LIVE musicians; ALL yourself; or what settings on BIAB did you use, if in fact you did? What kind of amp? THANKS GOODNESS you didn't use too much reverb!
Tell us more....... |

You got that right, Howard!
Ray, the backing is Band-in-a-Box 2007 w/RealDrums, SWING-EZ style. I didn't use an amp. No volume pedal either. Just the guitar into a "Black Box" and then to a Reverb (Holy Grail 2 - Spring reverb setting)... using a very small amount of reverb. Then into the computer, using Audacity recording software. I'm going for a plain, dry '50s steel tone. Thanks Ray... I enjoyed your playing on the youtube clip posted recently. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

In case anyone takes this seriously, which I'm sure you don't, for the record the Guyatone D8 is not made of plywood. It's solid wood. They don't make plywood that thick. (Evidently they do. See later post.)

Really nice Doug. I guess if ya know what you are doing, it doesn't matter what guitar you play. |

Doug, that Guyatone has a great tone and your playin really brings it out. Can you tell us your B11 tuning? BTW, "Sand" was an excellent choice, one of my favorites. |

Did Guya or Guyatone have a coloured faced steel? The only one's I have ever seen are either white or blonde. And, what type of material is that covering the laminated wood? It sort of looks like aluminum.
Great tune Doug. Some will still not accept it. |

Way to go Doug! Excellent playing.
In my mind's eye, I was sitting on the beach in Hawaii, drinkin' Mai Tai's and checking out the pretty hula girls!
I don't care what that guitar's made out of. You got that retro Hawaiian tone to the max... Kinda like a cross between a Ric and a National Hawaiian... and of course, it's plugged into a Oahu amp.
I loved it! |

That is really nice Doug! Great natural tone.
That steel is one of the nicest I have seen. Most seem to be beat up. I never knew if it was the finish wearing off or "falling off."
Anyway. It doesn't matter. I think you could play this:
and it would sound great!!! |

The finish on mine is paint.....I'm thinking that it's not birch ply as that's an expensive plywood and much lighter in color.
At any rate, Doug proves that the playing dictates the sound moreso that the guitar itself.....
but if you really want to hear a crappy guitar, just sit me down at a Clinesmith......

Just sat down and clicked onto this topic for the first time today and wow nice, nice, nice! It's better that -21c today and a nice warm beach listening to that song would be just so right.
Good job Doug!

Heavens to Betsy
I must take a core sample of mine.
Isn't that also the standard way of determining the age of a steel guitar ? |
