I'm interested in getting a tube amp, and the peavey Delta Blues, and the ValveKing 212 are in my price range. I know comparatively little about amps, but I like the 15" speaker in the Delta Blues. Any ideas concerning these two amps for steel? |

I can only speak for the ValveKing 100w Head.
I've used it for steel with a 2-12 cab but it depends on what your expecting it to do...if you like tubes sound with steel it'll be fine...but I think that a steel amp would be better for most country.
For 6 string it's amazing!! The clean channel sounds as good as my old Fender Twin...and the distortion channel is sweet (Not raspy) and easy to dial-in.
I play Rock 'N Roll. (Hendrix and Santana to southern rock and country clean) Through a single 12' cab, 2-12's in a cab and for bigger venues a Mesa Boogie 4-12' half stack and it sounds great through any one of them. Ive had this set-up for a few years and the guys in my group say that they love the sound....the price is great also.
Johnny Hiland plays through 2 of 'em....nuff said! _________________ DESERT ROSE D-10 8/5...Joe Naylor "SteelSeat"...

I know the delta blues is most likely not anywhere near the headroom you need. In the house I bet it would be ok. I like that amp actually for guitar and they are inexpensive.
I am up the road from you it seems, we ought to play sometime it'd be fun. |

I also have the VK100 head. I team it up with a 15" Black Widow for my 12 string psg, and two 12's for the Tele and Strat. And sometimes combine it with my NV112 for a fantastic sound. |

I used a Delta Blues 1x15 for steel for years - If you need lots of clean headroom look elsewhere but if you like a little overdrive they are killer amps for the $. |

I too have a delta blues, and for a little distortion it is awesome and really louddddddd! as long as you mike it you can clean in up but to drive it hard it's not that clean(in my opinion). I've tried the valve king and prefer the delta blues, man that 15 in. speaker is hard to beat. well..........there's my 2 cents worth,, if you really stretch it you can actually tell someone I have an opinion. _________________ www.psgpicker@gmail.com (Sierra Crown D-10 keyless)2-Nashville 112's, Steelers Choice, Hilton VP, Digitech RP150, Bobro, GeorgeL's cables, BJS Bars and Picks. |

Phil, I used a VK212 in the studio the other night,as my 400 is at the repair shop, was really quite impressed with it , good bottom end, and plenty of top which could be sweetened up real good.Don't know how it would stand up at gig volume, will try and talk the studio into letting me borrow it for gig and try it out. Also a good post here about the Vk112, a few days back. |

I like my Delta Blues 15, but I put in much bigger transformers. Although I used it for steel in the studio on Zaza's "Staring At The Sun" cd, it was set at conversational levels, and miked of course. Sounded very nice. But turned up even a bit, and the headroom was gone. El-84s ain't gonna cut it for steel in almost all cases. Bluesy lap steel? Ok. |
