This tune is frightfully catchy, so I'm assuming it is based on a classical piece.

At first, I thought Pachelbel's Canon in some key, but I'm doubting it.

Any ideas?

Don't recognize it as any specific classical piece. It is very '80s New Wave, which used classical canonical progressions with a Disco beat, and had philosophical lyrics.

And they dress like nancy boys!
I am depressed. I could never abide Duran Duran and the like at the time, but age is a leveller of sorts.
