Hi,
For anyone who is interested, I have now modified the 'VirtualFretboard' software to be more 'steel guitar friendly'. It now allows the displayed notes to be positioned over or behind the frets. Also, a MIDI note can be assigned to each open string to cater for some of the more complex steel guitar tunings.

Hi, Liam:
I just downloaded from the above link and completed the setup. But when I run the program, all I get are the 6-string guitar and the bass guitar options; no 10-string steel guitars in there! I know you said you set them up, but where are they hiding??

Hi,
Sorry about that. It was not my intention to include them. This is new FULL release of the original software, the one with the steel tunings was a special for the group here to help you evaluate the software.
Of course you can add what instruments you like in the registered version.

So, if the one with the steel tunings is in an evaluation copy for steel players, where is that? Surely we don't have to pay first in order to evaluate it? I'm confused! |

The system now supports notes over frets in addition to the original behind frets view and the MIDI notes now support tunings that have notes of lower pitch than the previous. This is specific to stell guitar.
You can swap instrument files once registered.
I don't intend to maintain two versions of the software. The 'special' was to illustrate the point. The additions noted in this thread are permanent inclusions in the software.

Another note...
The unregistered version does let you add new instruments it does NOT let you save them. So you can add the tuning and instrument you wish to evaluate and use the new 'over frets' display option. With the 'official' release, URL noted at the start of this thread.
Do this...
1)Select the 'Edit-Instruments' option.
2)Enter 'Steel Guitar 10 String' into the name box.
3)Change the number of strings to 10.
4) Press 'Add'
5) Select the tuning tab.
6) Fill in a name for the tuning.
7) Type in the open string notes with commas inbetween.
 Press 'Add'
9) Hit 'OK'
You can now use the new tuning. Registered or not.
