After neglecting my MSA Classic S-10 5X5 for over 15 years, I'm trying to get myself going on it again. Finally in a band that wants that sound.
The music, information and especially the sense of community on this Forum have been inspirational. Thank you, all of you. |

Rich. Welcome to the SGF. This is the BEST place in the world for our kind. I am sure the information found here will serve only to enhance your playing and knowledge. I think I can speak for many of us older players in saying that we wish this kind and amount of information was available to us back when we started. Things would have been alot easier than having to figure this all out one note at a time with the old record players and 45's or 33's we had. Spend time looking around and reading everything. It really is a wealth of information free for the taking. Enjoy and Thanks. Once again we welcome you to the brotherhood. Happy Holidays. Zeke |

Hey Rich, welcome to the forum. Quit for 15 years, huh? Lots of us have I'm sure, maybe not that long. What part of Minn? Spent a couple of years at Duluth in the Air Force. Still have some good friends in Bimidji.

Rich,
Welcome to this forum,I also remember the old days (mid fortys).
When i was 15 year old,my uncle had a 6 string E tuning gibson lap steel,I would get the old country records & sit for hours trying to learn to play it,yes we had to learn the hard way,but i have never been sorry,I have also went sometimes months & years without playing the steel, its like a magnet it always draws you back to it.I know you will enjoy being a member on this forum, you can get unlimited amount of info,& the best friends that will always help you anyway they can.
enjoy the ride & keep on picking.

I have lived in Moorhead for the last 32 years, but grew up in the lakes area 50 miles to the east. Been playing the sixstring for 49 years
Bought the MSA in 1980, and gigged with it for about twelve years. Then became annoyed that I'd get hired to play lead "but you can bring your steel if you want," meaning carrying a heavier amp, the PSG and Pak-a-Seat, having to get there earlier to set up and tune, but no additional $$$$.
Then, in 1997, I "blew out" my hands, doing some intense data entry work. Went out to a gig and could hardly move my fingers. Mostly recovered, but it took a toll on my selfconfidence, the certainty that I could get the lick I wanted to play.
About that time, I opened up the PSG case and found that a cord had slipped around in there and the plugs did a job on the finish. Upset me so much, I couldn't look at the guitar for ten years. Still bothers me.
But I love the sound of the steel. The Most Nearly Perfect Instrument. |

Rich-Welcome to the Forum. It is the place to be. I had a MSA Lacquer classic D10. They were real nice guitars designed by Bud Carter. Not too heavy either....al.![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) ![Cool](images/smiles/icon_cool.gif) _________________ Michigan (MSGC)Christmas Dinner and Jam on my 80th Birthday.
