Folks, I need to play "Hava Nagila" on D-10, and I don't care either E9 or C6, Does anyone have a "tab" or some useful suggestion?

I think it's E-Am kind of a thing, and I usually switch over to regular Tele to do this song, but if I have to do it on the D-10, how do I do about it?

I don't need to have fancy solo or change, but this song to me, is a bit confusing on fret board of D-10.

Anyone?

Muzukashii to omoimasu... :- )

You might find it online -- at least the chords -- and transfer it to the steel -- probably E9th...

Yorshuku onegaishimasu....

Just to get you off the ground, this is the first line---you need to get a handle on the mode (which someone else will name):

E9, key of D

Tab:
     *   *   *     *          *   *    *     *
1-------------------------|----------------------------
2-------------------------|----------------------------
3-------------------------|----------------------------
4-------------------------|----------------------------
5-------------------------|--------------10------------
6---------------10--------|---10--10---------11~10-----
7-------------------------|----------------------------
8----10--10--------11~10--|----------------------------

     *   *   *      *         *   *       *    *
1--------------------------|---------------------------
2--------------------------|---------------------------
3--------------------------|---------------------------
4--------------------------|---------------------------
5---------------11--10-----|---------------------------
6----11--11-------------11-|--10----------10-----------
7--------------------------|---------------------------
8--------------------------|------10--10---------------

Man, so Tom, you had been fooling around in Kichijoji for over 20 years !? That's super!!

Ah, John, Those tab is great, thanks. But I need some "guidance" on D-10 for this song.

I tend to stick with Am as a "rhythum section", but there got to be neater way to do this song on Pedal steel I think.

I just don't have it( yet) Oh Well

Help !! <H>

Jon, I'll print this out and mess with it.

Yeah, there are horn sections and lead guitar so I don't need to be "heard", but in Key of D ??

Isn't that a bit brighter sounding for this tune??

I'll try it, as a matter of fact, I'm doing it right now.

Pay no mind to the key--I just sat down and the bar landed on the 10th fret.
The essence of the song, though, is that flatted 2nd, major 3rd mode.

Right, right...

Let me mess with it for a while...

Any configuration for pedal/knee for code??

Straight Am code just don't sound right, too bright I think. And whatever I do, make it sound "Jazzy" and that's not right either.
Oh Well

No suggestions except that as you play around with it you will find some pockets. AND---if you know Miserlou then you can get playful with that. Probably will turn some heads too.

man, this is a classic tune, yet it's kind of "hard" song to play on D-10...

What do we do about it?? Confused

Hard? On E9th? Nope, just hold the "A" pedal down. Cool

Hiro,

The melody of this song does not fit in very well with the “typical” scales and pockets most steelers play when playing country or rock.
My suggestion would be to figure it all out on 1 or 2 strings first, and then see if you can find some “shortcuts” to playing it that make sense to you.
I have played it a few times on pedal steel, but if I don’t play it for a while, I forget how I did it and it takes me a while until I can play it relatively smooth again.

I divided up in to sections to hopefully make it easier to explain.

Here are the chords:
1st section
E / / / E / / /
Am / / / E / / /
E / / / E / / /
Am / / / E / / /

2nd section
E / / / Dm / / /
Dm / / / E / / /
E / / / Dm / / /
Dm / / / E / / /

3rd section:
Am / / / Am / / /
Am / / / Am / / /
E7 / / / E7 / / /

E7 ------ Am

Here are the notes:
1st section (played twice)
E E G# F E G# G#
B A G# A A
C B A G# F G F E

2nd section (played twice)
G# G# F E E E
F F E D D D
D F E D D A G# F G F E

3rd section
A A A A A A
A A C B A C B A
A A C B A C B A
B B D C B D C B
B B D C B D C B

End section
B B E B B E
E E C B A G# A

I hope this helps.

Marc, thank you !! Well, in the band situation, my steel is not "solo"featured for this tune( Thank God!!) because there's horn sections carrying this out.

So I usually do some good old "Spedy West"- ish Wahmo, Boom! as an accented "noise" to excite the song. ( which is, Am most of the time, it's like, "power code" kind of stuff.)

I'm even tinkering with an idea of re-configureing one of my knee lever out of 9( perhaps staggard LKL2 ?) to accomodate the "ease" of reaching out Benny Goodman/ Mickey Katz world...

Not quite sure how to get there...

Ah, and holding down A pedal on E9, yes, yes, that's about what I do in the entire song. It's fine, but I think E9 neck sounds too bright for that song, but I'm not sure why I feel that way...

Ah yes--When the notes were given, the tune came to mind. Previous comments indicated that the song was of Jewish origin. Thank heaven for that sight-singing course of yesteryear!

In A minor, the "A" section is based on a Middle eastern scale-E F G# A B C D# E. The primary chord is E7 and the neighbor chord is either F or D minor. For example, play 12th fret 9865 and play 9865 13th fret (A pedal for more color) for the F chord. To play the scale, 0n 3rd fret, A pedal, raise Es and lower 2 a 1/2 step. Pick 5 2 4 1 and repeat on 11th fret, or 10 9 8 7 on 3rd and 11th.
The "B" section is A minor and E7.
