Thanks, Michael. Now I know not to pass by a 7 hoping there's an 8.
Did all of them before '73 have "Gretsch" on the peghead, and none of them after that?

How do you fix a plastic peghead overlay? Did all of them have a plastic peghead overlay?
From what little I've heard (all on the net) a sho-bro is just different, sort of the way a bluegrass banjo and folk banjo are different. Or a D28 vs an O-18. Hearing varies as much as vision, so when people say a Sho Bro sounds bad, it just means they don't like it. If you and I like it, that's all that matters. I don't like Gibson acoustics, but that doesn't mean they sound bad. It means I don't hear them the same way most people do.
I remember driving through Fresno between LA and Sacramento before I 5 went in. And the mountains east of Fresno were as wild and pristine as any on earth. Is there still no paved road over the Sierras for about 200 miles south of Yosemite? Heck, there's probably not even a dirt road.

Michael,
I sure do appreciate all the info. It's making me more and more interested in Sho Bros. I have a few sho bro CDs on order.
I'll just ask about cases and then I'll quit picking your brain. Is it hard to get cases to fit these? How wide are Sho Bros at the lower bout? After Gretsch quit making them, what kind of cases did Shot sell them with?

Michael - I know this is a rather old thread... but do you know if Sho Bud made special stick on fretboards for this model? I believe most Sho Bud's have a 24 inch scale but you stated that this one is 25.5.

greg...the sho-bro is strictly a resonator acoustic..not to be confused with a sho- bud steel, which may have a 24 inch scale. different animals completely.

Thanks Michael, I emailed Tom Bradshaw and he only has the 24 inch scale fretboard available.
I think the longer scale fretboards must have been custom to those models only and are now lost to history.
