Thinking about replacing the Kluson butterly tuners on a 78 p/p, and I understand the Gotoh Vintage are the way to go. Wondering if anybody has a spare one or two, 1L and 1R (nickel) from a previous change-out (see picture below)? Would like to check them out before committing to the full monty.
Also, any hints on doing this? I understand removing the C6 head is a must.
Anyone using the gold version or is that grounds for banishment from the Forum  ?

Michael,
I have 5 bass side keys that are Kluson knock off's made by "All Parts" they are the bass
side only. I would take 5 dollars each for them
plus shipping if you need them let me know
Note: they are brand new i used the trebel side on an old gibson D-8 that needed some replacements
to be able to play it. they are new (never used)
but i have had them for several yrs..

Mike,
Sure, I have one I'll send you to try out. They work great on an Emmons P/P.
Switching them out is pretty easy for those keys that you can reach with a screwdriver. Some of those on the "inside rows" of keys can't be easily reached without the real risk of scratching the keyhead or guitar finish from a slipping screwdriver. So, one of the keyheads has to be removed and that would give you access to the second neck's keys.
Make sure you save the original screws that are removed from the old tuners. Those have to be used with the new replacements because they are machine screws. The Gotoh replacements only come with small wood screws for guitar headstocks. Also, when removing the original screws make sure the screwdriver you use is the correct size. Too small of one could slip and scratch the guitar or ruin the screw's slot. And then you'd have the hassle of both trying to remove that screw by some other means as well as getting its replacement.

| I have found that sometimes you need to drill out the holes in the replacement tuners just a tad for the Emmons machine screws. |
