Hi Group:
I've received many e-mails with a subject called, "Pics" or something similar. They are all sent to a long list of people and all contain the attachment, "NAVIDAD.EXE."
According to the Symantec website, this attachment is a computer worm virus that can damage your computer.
You can read about it at the URL:
http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.navidad.html
Their website indicates that they have a "fix" for this virus but I don't believe it means that they can correct for the damage to your computer that this virus may do.
What bothers me is that I believe my receipt of these e-mails is somehow associated with me being a musician or a steel guitarist. Perhaps, it arises from my postings on the SGF? I'm really not sure but I certainly want to warn you all about this if you do not already know about it.
Don't open these attachments on your computer. Delete these letters and be done with it.
Have a great New Years to all of you.

I believe an unsuspecting forumite may have the virus, which replicates itself by sending itself to everyone in the infected user's address book.
I have received it 4 times so far...The recipient list always has jbarnold as the SECOND OR third person in the mailing list..
the subject line always says "Re: pics"
and the body of the mssg. says "recent pic from last night"
it always has and attachment "navidad.exe" or "navidad1.exe"
DO NOT OPEN OR RUN THIS ATTACHMENT- IMMEDIATELY DELETE THE MESSAGE!!!!
DO NOT OPEN ANY PROGRAM ATTACHMENT FROM ANYONE UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY EXPECTING IT, AND THEN RUN IT THRU A VIRUS CHECKER BEFORE RUNNING IT....

I'll second or third what has been said on this. I too have seen quite a few of these new Email Worms lately in my consulting business. There are a couple that put will themselves into the Email Message itself. No Attachment. Advice to the Wise, Get a good (late version) Virus scanner and keep the information files updated. There are so many new Worms and Virus's coming out that unless you have a up to date scanner, you might as well have nothing.

Thanks guys for the info. My wife Margie noticed this sams E- mail and we decided to delete as we were suspicious that it may be a virus. This thing was sent to us on at least 10 different times. We are grateful to hear what this was.Long live the Steel guitar forum.

I also get this e-mail that says
"ha-ha-ha snow white and the seven dwarfs
the real story", about every other day.
It is infected with a virus, because I got it. I got rid of it but I keep getting this
same email over & over. I just delete it and you had better too!

I received one of those "Ha Ha" "SnowWhite" things just yesterday....it caused my Norton Anti-Program to activate and transfer the mail to quarantine status, so I didn't open it and had no damage...Symantec has no 'repair' if you get infected. |
