Has anyone ever had to use a tuning application from an iPhone or similar multimedia device? Left your Peterson at home, had to do a quick n' dirty tuning--that kind of thing?

I'm checking out iPhone apps and found this one, which claims to be accurate to 1/100th Hz, and appears to be able to hone in on a one- or two-cent variation. One has to wonder how accurate the mic on the iPhone is. Of course, I've seen those phones do some pretty amazing stuff...

I guess it depends on how accurate the clock is. It might be pretty good, but my bet is that it won't beat out most other tuners. Still, in an emergency, something is better than nothing.

The quality of the mike (and the phone´s electronics behind it) might affect the background noise or he overall frequency response, but it wouldn´t change the pitch of the incoming sound, therefore the tuner´s accuracy would rather depend on the software....

All I know on this subject is that phone dial tones all over the world supposedly are an "F" note pitch. If you string up your guitar and don't have a tuner handy to tune close to pitch, just pick up the phone and tune the E string to the tone with your bar on the 1st fret. It will get you very close to pitch.
