I hear and see Taylor Swift trashed a lot but I guess I must be a "sicko" because I like her. I think she's really got a lot on the ball for a girl her age.......
(1) She's a pretty hot lookin' babe......
(2) Not a bad singer (of her own songs) and rhythm guitarist (she's actually pretty good at that)...
(3) writes most of her own material, some I don't like, but a lot of it I do, especially the one about the stupid red pickup truck he never lets her drive...
(4) The rain scene on the ACM awards which even George Strait stood up and applauded....
(5) She's close with her family, especially her mother......
All in all, I think she's got it going! I really enjoyed the "Crossroads" show on CMT with her and Def Lepperd, I thought it was one of the best I'd seen of that series. I think DL is one of the greatest rock bands of all time and IMHO she hung right in there with the "big boys".
Also, I've seen her in a few interview shows and she displays a maturity which a lot of older acts don't seem to have.
So to close it out, Taylor's one of my current favorites of the new artists on the scene. I'm probably alone here, but does anyone else out there like her? She makes me wish I was forty years younger too...........JH in Va. _________________ Don't matter who's in Austin (or anywhere else) Ralph Mooney is still the king!!! |

She can't sing. She was created by the Hollywood powers along with Nashville to market to the Hannah Montana 16 year old crowd. All image, no subtance. Its about money. Notice how they have got her made up to look like a young Shania Twain? |

I think Hannah can sing!
I liked Taylor at first, but she's shown herself since then. She hasn't been good live on Award shows. The substance over matter theory. |

I like her a lot. She did a terrible job on the CMA's (but I also thought George Strait and Alan Jackson did a sub-par job), so she may just be someone to listen to on CD. All the reasons Jerry said go for me also. I have her first CD and will be the proud owner of her second.
That Crossroads show was absolutely AWESOME. I wish CMT would put the Crossroads shows out on DVD. There have been some really magical combinations of acts put together on that show. |

Well, we had bubble gum rock back in the 70's....or was that the early 80s??... so I guess it is time for some bubble gum country. However, she has a talent for writing and as she matures, so will her songs. I think the potential is there, but to classify her as "country" in my book, is a bit of a stretch. Modern country maybe.....whatever that is.

She is part of the Gnashville music grind....they play her stuff on the radio..whether it is good or bad is not the criteria...it is whether folks buy it or not. If your ignorant of what good music/vocals/songwriting etcs is, then you might like her. If you afflicted with knowing more about what is generally considered better, then you might not like her.
If you were a 13 year old girl or a 50 year old pervert with a pocket full of blue pills, then all rational thinking would be out the window.
I personally find her music/lyrics/vocal style etc to be more of a gimmick that she is cashing in quite well using. Some days I don't turn the radio to another station when she comes on, and equally some days I try to listen to her just in case I need to know some of her tunes for a gig.

Would any of you be able to tolerate bubble gum country if it were prettied up with some pedal steel guitar? What if bubble gum country became all the rage and created a new demand for steel? Would you play it in your band if people asked for it?
I'm just a hobby player, so I really don't care what's popular and what ain't. But if I were a working musician or trying to make any kind of money playing music I'd have to be more sensitive to what listeners want. _________________ Sho-Bud Pro III + Marshall JMP 2204 half stack = good grind! |

I have to learn five of Taylor's songs note for note by this Sunday for a well paying vocalist/patroness doing an important (to her) talent contest. It's hard for my attention span not to drift off when I'm listening to my work tape. When I took the gig, I thought it was gonna be originals. Oh well.
But yeah....she is cute. |

She's a beautiful young lady and probably a good person, but on the radio she sounds like a Jr High Schooler. I would rather not hear her but I'm glad she is making a good living and I hope she matures. It's plain a lot of people do like her. |

Hey thanks Leo! I just wish somebody would chart out the tunes with all the breaks and fills for me. Then I could just show up and plow through it....with a big sho biz smile on my face of course.

Personally, I think she looks like an alien--pretty alien, but alien nonetheless.
Don't think she can sing without a pitch corrector from what I've heard of her while I was around town.
They are definitely wearing her welcome out. She's everywhere like cockroaches. |
