Thanks Ron for keeping us updated on developments in Hawaii. Jeff AuHoy and Nina Kealiiwahamana will be awesome. Cool

It was interesting to note at the Hawaii Theater website the following statment.
Quote:
The Hawaii Theatre's venture to re-produce Hawaii Calls as a vehicle to re-introduce and re-invigorate the general public's interest in Hawaiian music history, distant and current, is both important and exciting.”
This sounds promising. Cool

It is also important to have financial support coming from the City & County of Honolulu, the Hawaii Tourism Authority, and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts through appropriations from the Hawaii State Legislature and the National Endowment of the Arts.

Aloha, Smile
Don

I doubt they is any movement to bring it back to any degree like when it was famous, just an annual event. Better than nothing, but I'd love to be wrong.

There also will be vintage film of the era and old HC shows to show an instructive perspective to those who missed it.

And it was worth it! Wouldn't mind finding something similar via the net to suggest it to.
Anybody got that info?

I remember it being on the Mutual network Eddie. Only one station around here for that in the late 40s.
I suppose the Mutual network no longer exists does it?

I remember listening to Hawaii Calls on Saturday mid-day in Los Angeles. I believe it came in over "short wave" as it would fade in and fade out. I don't know whether the background sounds were waves on the shore or if was the Short Wave reception, but it added to the program. At the time it seemed incredible to listen to a live program 3,000 miles away.

Nice pictures. I think Jeff was also into jazz piano. He is certainly a well rounded musician. I met his Mom in 2003.
