The Classic was only a double/double (raise and lower). Most Supersustains were triple/triple, and had slots instead of holes. To get full advantage of the Super' changer, you'd have to mill or file the older Classic endplate.

(edited to add additional info)

I should also mention there was also some difference in the way the changer was designed at the top. Earliest Classics just had pillow blocks and a spacer-bar. Later designs incorporated a "neck stub", and slightly different pillow blocks, so you'd have to cut off the neck on an old Classic to incorporate the neck stub (which is also sometimes called a "pickup pocket") with the new changer. Of course, anything can be made to work, but the swap isn't just a drop-in deal.
