The MASGA will sponsor a jam in Selma, NC on Saturday, Nov. 8. Doors open at 9 a.m.,; jam starts at 10 a.m.; two featured steelers will be the great Joe Turner and Allyn Love; Allyn is new to jams. He started his career with Jean Sheppard, played with Steve Wariner for twelve years, and with Jo Dee Mesina for two years, plus many other Nashville artists. He is excellent! The jam will run through the day, with Joe and Allyn featured with Eric Strickland and the Nashville Rash (who have a great steeler in Bryant Aycock) in the evening, with others to be added.
A beginners steel seminar will be held on Sunday starting at 1 p.m. by steel legend Clyde Mattocks.
For info call Bowie Martin 252-399-1533. Also see the MASGA website!
The location will be the Ice House Theatre, 112 N. Webb St., Selma, NC; on Friday night the regular show will run 7:45 to 10 p.m. featuring Eric Strickland and the Nashville Rash, plus comedian Tater Roads. Plan to come early and see the Friday night show! Great country music, with loads of steel by Bryant Aycock.

Come on out and let's pack the place and make ole Bowie get a bigger building Very Happy You don't have to be a member of MASGA to come out and if you do come out and see how well we treat our members and make you feel like family....then you'll probably join anyhow.

We hope to see some Raleigh players! This is the closest to Raleigh we have held a jam. Come on out - you will feel at home regardless of your experience or background!

Well, I'm from Raleigh and I am planning to come. I'm very much looking forward to it. I especially appreciate the effort the MASGA is making to help newer players with the training session on Sunday.

I went to a MASGA event in Wilson a year or so ago, and what Glen says is true. Everyone went out of their way to make me feel at home, despite a mild case of beginner's nerves.

Bowie,
Thanks for having the Jam. I look forward to seeing you, the "old gang", and newbies as well. Jerry Fleming--if you can, please come my friend, we all miss you and your wonderful steel playing. As mentioned before, everyone is welcomed no matter the level of the player, it's a time of friendship and comradery, not judgement. If it makes anyone feel any better about coming, I hold the position of lowest level, so there you can't be the worst player. Anyway, everyone come out and support Bowie's efforts and his love for the steel guitar as well, we all would love to meet you and have a chance to listen and talk "STEEL GUITAR".

Steel buddy,

Allen Howington

Bowie, I was planning on coming to this one but I play a restaurant in Portsmouth every Saturday from 5-8 PM. I have a guy who sits in for me on guitar when I need to be off but this week we're having a special Hawaiian luau type show and the other guy doesn't play any steel so I need to be there. I hope I can make the next one.

Glen, it was great seeing you again at Jerry Dunbar's. I love your Mullen, it's a great looking and sounding guitar........JH in Va.

Just a note to those planning on attending the jam. Don't forget to bring your wives (and some money) so they can shop all the antique shops. Selma is well know for the many antique shops! But don't blame MASGA if they spend too much!!

FYI, my wife was thinking of coming along with me and we would have needed to bring along the pet dog.

I checked with the Quality Inn and they do have some rooms that they allow you to bring pets into. There is a $15 extra charge for bringing the pet into the room. I thought some of you might be interested in knowing that if you were trying to figure out what to do with your dog while you were gone. They have a limited number of these, so I would suggest calling ahead to reserve one of these if you're considering it.

I want to thank Bowie, Glen, and everbody else for organizing this session. I attended and it was exellent. Hospitality abounded and the venue was perfect, with a great sound system. All the players got to play their fill, and they all played fine music.

The featured performance, late Saturday afternoon with great players Joe Turner and Allyn Love, was outstanding. Both are killer players and it was a real privilege to see them in action.

I also attended the group lesson on Sunday with Clyde Mattocks instructing. Clyde was very generous with his time and very effective in his teaching. Your won't meet a nicer guy or a better player. Thank you, Clyde.

The MASGA put on wonderful event. Thanks to all who made it happen.

I echo your words Dale.. By the way, it was great getting the opportunity to meet you Saturday. Let me also thank Bowie...Glen and all the rest for setting this event up. I had to leave early to make a gig that I could not get out of....but what time I did have to spend there was so much fun. Thanks again...
I think every player should be a part of an organization and the Mid Atlantic Steel Guitar Association is one of those special clubs where friends are made for life. Anyone interested please visit their website and learn how simple and inexpensive it is to join. www.masga.org
