To begin with I am not a pedal steel player so any questions that appear to be uninformed that is reason.

With that out of the way, here is what's going on. I am in the process of building a lap 12 string with a palm pedal,in the c6th tuning. I have been in contact with Dan who acquired the patten from Bigsby for the palm pedal and he's asked me some question that's above my pay grade so to say.

So here is my questions on a eight string pedal steel tuned to a c6th tuning which strings are pulled and which strings are pushed to detune? are the strings pulled or pushed 1/2 step or a full step? I intend on playing mostly blues.

The c6th tuning is from the George P of George Boards site. I asked him about the steel option and he redirected me back here to see if you all could help. He mentioned Alan Brooks or Cas Smith could chime in.
With that said all information will be appreciated.
Thanks

Look at these C6 tunings:

I have never seen an 8st C6 pedal steel. But I would look at what Emmons does with his P4 and P5 for starters.

Are they normally a ten string? Do the bass strings normally get pushed or pulled? If not then they would become neutral in this project so to say.

If I were playing blues and using a palm-pedal, I'd lower both "E"s a half-tone. Using and 8-string C6th, I also think I'd prefer to keep an "E" on top, instead of the "G" that George Boards site recommends. The "G" on top is awfully high, and would sound very "whiny" to me. I think blues likes a "throatier" sound.

Phil,
I would suggest finding a pedal steel player to show you some stuff. From your questions you seem to lack a point of reference. Basicly, there is no musical need for pedals on an 8 st steel so you can do whatever you want depending on what sound you want to make.

But really, turn off your computer and go find a living steel player so you can get a perspective to start with.

Also study Chuck Campbell's set up for blues. Transpose the intervals to suit whatever tuning you use:
