What to do? The tissue around left edge/corner of the nail on my middle picking finger has become inflamed and it hurts like he!! to wear the finger pick for more than 5 minutes.
Any recommendations as to the quickest cure? Bag balm? Hand Lotion? Old Grandad?
Any recommendations appreciated. |

Liquid bandaide stuff. local drug store..
It might be like putting elmer's glue on over it and letting it dry. Remember doing that as a kid, just for fun??
My pics cut me constantly. If I get a papercut at work the pain is very annoying. I have used clear finger nail polish over a cracked cutical. Helps, but no where near a cure.

The obvious is proper medical treatment. But for me.. I always carry Advil for such occasions... especially arthritis related pain as well. It does work for me. As with any pain medication, there are side effects. I read the plastic bottle and I didn't see any PSG side effects. :-) |

I was going to suggest the Bobbe Seymour fix but that would be in bad taste so I guess I won't mention it.
(No good suggestions---I always just ride it out.) |

This sounds very stupid but it actually works the best.Wrap your finger in that tape (white) they use for painting.
It has a component in it that heals the fastest. Not only that but you can actually slide your finger pick over top of it.
2 birds with one stone so to speak.

Tried Super Glue, works great. Put a very small drop on the area requiring repair, wipe off the excess so that the skin lies flat where it used to be. Don't touch anything for a few seconds, especially not your picks. The older I get the more this stuff bothers me and this is a quick fix. It will last through a gig and longer. Of course use at your own discretion. DS |

If it's getting inflamed put some antibiotic ointment on it with a band-aid. If the inflammation doesn't stop within a day or so go to a doctor. I had an infection in my right index finger that started out like a typical hangnail & wound up requiring surgical incisions and a home care nurse that came around a couple times a day to stuff a 7" strip (I'm not exaggerating) of gauze into my finger so the hole wouldn't heal around the infected area. The insertion and removal of the gauze taught me some interesting things about the human nervous system and the process left me with a slightly deformed index finger with some loss of sensation from cutting nerves. Ever since, if I see a red cuticle, I'm very careful. |

once I stopped using those delapidated jagged edged uncomfortable cheaply stamped out replicas of good picks, and started paying the extra 55 cents for decient dunlop picks that are somewhat preformed and intended to actually be worn on the fingers with the sole purpose of being a suitable match for finger picks, suddenly the painfull task of wearing finger picks wasn't as painfull at all anymore. That's as dramatic and lively as I could possible make it. I just felt like having fun, since my job requires nothing more at the moment than to look busy in front of a computer. _________________ www.psgpicker@gmail.com (Sierra Crown D-10 keyless)2-Nashville 112's, Steelers Choice, Hilton VP, Digitech RP150, Bobro, GeorgeL's cables, BJS Bars and Picks. |

Bandages in a variety of sizes and shapes are good to have around. Also keep a local anesthetic on hand like, Americaine Spray or Dermoplast.
Addressed many other medical issues, like Yeast Infection, Diarrhea, Constipation, and other illnesses that make tuning a PSG difficult... unless of course you have a Peterson Strobo-Rack. |

Are you gigging, where your playing is CRITICAL? If not, try playing with no fingerpicks - just the thumbpick. Give your fingers a rest. I play with and without.
I find the tone much warmer and control much better without.
Ask Bobbe Seymour, too.

I'm not positive on this, but the "Soak it in Cider" Kyle posted is the punch line of a joke. Please make the question to him private, not for public posting type of thing. I'm sure Kyle will be more than happy to share it with you, if you don't know...
Which I always thought was a funny one, but I'm pretending I never heard it. |

Many thanks to all for the remedies. My finger tip is now healing and I can play again..., thanks to some of the suggestions you've all provided. I've printed this thread out for future reference.
Thanks again all... now I'm going to the store to buy some cider |
