Fellers, I'd like you to know that Joan (Mrs. Johnny) Cox, played her heart out last Sat.nite with Tony Booth. She was gratious enough to sub for our regular Steel picker, The great Buddie Hrabal, and was just super! She had every Intro, lick, turn around, ending, just perfect. She did a fantastic job all the way around, as she played with us (Country Night Live) on our sets, while and before backing up Tony. She is a pleasure to work with. Never too loud, but loud enough, didn't overplay, didn't step on anyone, great attitude, and was really happy to be there! Sorry you had to miss it.
AWESOME!
I'd also like to acknowledge Dale Morris Senior for subbing for his son, Dale Morris Jr. on Fiddle, and also Ray Boyer for subbing for Billy Martin on Bass. Myself, and Drummer, Danny Adams were the only regulars of Country Night Live "The right five" but we handled it, and really enjoyed Tony Booth. He sang his............... Well, he sure sang great! |

This comes as no surprise to anyone who's heard Joan at TSGA. She's a fine player and is, as Down Beat says, "talent deserving wider recognition". |

Joan's not bad for a girl!
You can hear a lot of Hal Rugg and Jernigan dripping off of most of her notes! Like I said "Not bad for a girl" BTW this chick gets a tone to die for!!

I was home in the bed sick so I did'nt get to hear it. I can tell you this much. I played on Tony's new record but Joan got all her parts with no help from me. She had a ball and has not shut up about it since We are going on a cruise with Tony, Darrell and Mona McCall, Justin Trevino, Amber Digby and several others in a couple weeks. I hope Tony will still let me play his set. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

Boy, I can tell you I had a super time playing last Saturday night. Chuck, Danny, Ray, and Dale Morris, Sr (who I finally got to meet that night) were so much fun to work with. Talk about pressure...looking out and seeing Tony Booth sitting there watching and listening to what you're doing, and then you know he's coming up and singing too...Johnny's right..not something you quit talking about for a long time. Thanks Buddie Hrabal for giving me the chance to do it. It was loads of fun. Johnny made it tough for me by what he played on Tony's CD. Tony did nearly the whole new CD and a bunch of other tunes...lots of Buck Owens songs, and he'll let you play..Tony's always been one of my favorite singers, and he did a bang up job last Saturday night. Can't wait to hear him again in a couple of weeks..Johnny, you think maybe you'd let me play "Cinderella" with him?

Bill, to be a fly on our wall would be very boring. We never set up and play. We have a recording studio that we never use. I'm on the road still 125 days a year. Joan has a day job and plays on weekends. So all our flys do is watch tv with us and the dogs. We used to setup together when we first got married but we both worked day jobs, I wasn't playing much and Joan wasn't playing at all. Nashvegas was not good for Joan. _________________ Johnny "Dumplin" Cox

I've always liked the story Joan tells about her being upstairs while you were downstairs playing on Curly's steel. I think she said she almost thought Curly was down there playing.
Now there's a compliment worth dying for !!
