What is the best ported cab for a PV 1501. Looking at web page on the net it looks like a degree in accoustic design would be needed jus to get close.

Larry, most of the speaker enclosure calculations for 15" speakers are irrelevant for steel. They are meant for bass and full-spectrum applications. Steel can't even play the low notes those big, heavy cabs are designed for. Rick Johnson, Marrs and other guitar speaker cabinet makers provide small cabs that will work fine for steel and guitar. They usually offer them both open-backed or closed-back with ports.
