My friend Jeff just got his ZB D-11 back from Greg Jones. Looks like the same vintage. Look forward to hearing yours.

What in the world is that gizmo attached to the leg? At first I thought it was a trolling motor. |

It's a tuner...or maybe a radar detector (used when speed picking). |

I guess it could be a tuner but my friend can't tune so it could be a miniture micowave because he sure can eat! |

The ZB D11/10 was custom built for John Finlay, UK by Tom Brumley (I Think he said ? ) Was Tom B. part of the ZB build? I know John told me that their leg measurements were the same.... John was a UK Rep. for ZB at the time. He is playing a Sho-Bud Super-Pro now.. It is now owned by Malcolm Miller from Norwich UK.. I have not set it up yet. I fancied a lazy night in front of the telly instead of in the studio with steel guitars..( something I rarely do these days)...

Tom Brumley did own the ZB company and built them in Bakersfield for a while. There's a great story of how they were really worried about an inspection by the fire marshal. He walked in the shop, which was filled with sawdust and flammable materials and asked "What are you boys building here?" They answered, "Steel guitars". He replied, "Amazing what you can do with steel these days!" and left. I don't remember where I heard that story, but it might have been from Tom himself. Back in '72 or so I was friends with some of the guys in Rick Nelson's band. My (then) girlfriend and I went up to Bakersfield to see them play and spent the afternoon at Tom's house. When I met him again in St. Louis more than twenty years later and mentioned that show he said "And you were all at the house for a BBQ!"). A gracious man with a terrific memory. Later we met Rick backstage (probably the best looking guy on the planet at the time, and with a recent hit record, "Garden Party") and I thought my girlfriend would melt. |

Peter, I heard that story from Tom, himself. You might have heard it from me. |
