hey all...
Im a novice steeler with a ShoBud volume pedal that crackles at full volume. Can I replace a pot in an old model like this? Im not sure I have the guts or the know how to crack it open.
Should I just get a new one?

Hey Steve, Yes, draw a diagram of how your string is wound onto the pot, and just disassemble it and solder in a new 500K pot. Just take off one wire at a time and solder it to the new pot, so you don't switch a wire. the reassemble. If you have a digital camera, just snap a couple pics for reference. No biggee. If you need a new string, flyfishing line works perfect. Or any thick braided string will do--just wax it, and reinstall it tight.
You won't buy a new Shobud pedal, they are getting to be quite collectable, so ya better hang on to it. I love my shobud pedals(3 of them). |

I don't have the tech know how to be doing that, but your reply does tell me that I can have it fixed, at least. I will copy your reply and take it to my guy who can make it happen!
