Does any one use there Stereo Steel head with just ONE cabinet, I want to lug less stuff around and I'm wondering if any damage can result to the head by using only one 4 Ohm cabinet..Thanks in advance...

I talked to GD about this a few years ago when I had one of his combo units. He said it was fine. Just shut down the vol. of the side you aren't using and don't connect any speaker cables to it.

What you never want to allow is a shorted out speaker cable connection to reach the amp. I know, firsthand. Embarassed

If you are unsure of your actions, you can always call him. He likes talking steel and will give you the correct information straight from the source.

thanks Jerry for the info, and I too found out first hand about a shorted speaker connection .. as a matter of fact I found out three times, there was a microscopic piece of solder touching the sleeve of one of my input jacks my tech installed on my rack where I pluged the speakers in,,,Gerry fixed me up all three times,, he is a champ!!! as for the tech..I shot him....... Gerry Walker e-mailed me and for the record, the Stereo head is safe to use with one cabinet, just turn down thw volume of the side you are not using no harm can come to the amp, the channel that is not being used is in an "off" state thus preventing any damage, this guys thinks of everything!!! although in true Gerry form he warns that playing in non-stereo may create a lopsided effect in your brain, , be careful if you start writng upside down, or driving on the wrong side of the road, using your picks on the left hand and bar in the right etc.. see a doctor immediately!!!

Bob,I have been using a Stereo Steel Amp for several years with just one cabinet to play dances and jams and never had any problems.I sometimes switch the left and right channels just to use each side every once in a while.I have 2 Stereo Steel amps and 1 Stereo Steel Preamp.Finest sounding amp I've ever used.

Vince, that's what I call an on the job comfirmation, I'm going to start using one cabinet due to the "lugging" stuff around factor, and I agree with you I had all the Peaveys, and Fenders etc..they are all good and OK , but the Walker is the BEST!! tone out the wazoo!!! and Gerry is pleasure to deal with... thanks for your input... Bob
