I'm posting this in two forum sections, hope this is O.K. to inform all my friends that I may be down for awhile.
I am absolutely frustrated with windows vista that I'm almost ready to give up on computers completely.
I have my computer for basically 3 things.
The forum, steel radio.com, and my beloved ISGCC chatroom.
I've ried everything I can think of to solve my problen,so far no luck. I'm down
to my last resort. The problem is that for the past few months, my TC Web plug-in for the chatroom will stop working every couple of days and I cannot get in the chatroom at all. I've been able to restore to a period before the problem would start, but I've just about run out of restore points. My last option seems to be a complete system recovery and restore everything to when I bought the computer.
I've checked all downloads, updates, used all my spyware programs,
and everything else I can think of. Nothing seems to work. It keeps coming back.
It only affects the chatroom plug-in.
So, probably Sat. or Sun. morning I plan a Complete restore of my system. (Windows vista home basic has this option)
It may take me a while to accomplish this as I've never tried this before. I am posting this to inform my buddies that I may be down for awhile. Your understanding of this posting is appreciated. I love you all _________________ Just remember,

Hi. We've never talked, but I am a computer person and I really sympathize with your problem. I am by no means an expert, but I log a lot of hours on the dreaded Vista Home Premium. Experienced as I am, I would never attempt full system restore on Vista. You may lose key drivers that are critical to your Vista system and software. Vista is a whole other animal, full of bugs. Until Microsoft gets it right or comes up with a solution, these problems will persist. Vista doesn't play nice with drivers and software. Period.
If you decide to tackle a full restore on your own, be sure you have backups on CD or USB Flash Drive of all your drivers and add-ons. That may not be enough, but it's highly recommended. I can't stress this enough. Go to your manufacturer's website and download software and driver updates first and copy them to another media off your computer.
You might consider these things:
Have you installed all Windows Updates for your computer?
Do you have that plug-in enabled under Windows Add-ons?
Do you have administrator privileges? Vista tries to bind your hands if you don't, and sometimes even if you do. Check that. I have them as the sole user of my Sony Notebook, yet am constantly having to reinstall Flash because Vista won't install it without Admin. privileges, and seems to forget I have them.
Do you have Java script enabled under Tools|Internet Options|Security? Be sure Active X controls and plugins are enabled there.
It could be that your firewall is blocking this add-on. Are you able to set the permission for that feature? I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite for Vista, which has a setting where you can temporarily let the firewall learn what features need to be enabled and what doesn't.
Hope this helps. I'll get back if I think of other solutions. Good luck!
I appologize for this, my first "non music" post in a music forum -- but this is a brother who needs help.

This is a good suggestion I received today:
Mr. Billy Lovell who comes to the steel shows tells me he had problems with Vista also. He upgraded to Vista Ultimate. It costs $204 at Sam’s club. The upgrade installed over 20 new drivers. Maybe this will help.
I have his email address if you wish to reach him. _________________ Publicity, S.S.S.G.C. |
