Fellow forumites might like to know that I had the pleasure of hearing and meeting Roger in Worcester last night.
He is touring with Neil Innes as part of Fatso, and they were playing in Huntingdon Hall, which is an old Chapel formerly belonging to an obscure Methodist sect. Since it is a listed building, the high pulpit and two large eagles are still on the stage, and part of the audience sit in pews!
'Surprised'
Roger played a stormer on Tele, capturing the style of George Harrison, and Scotty Moore perfectly. On the Emmonds PSG, he was just fantastic, full of inventive twists on the classics like Reet Petite, and embellishing some very challenging tunes like George Harrison's "Darkness".
Roger seemed to be taking the role of musical director too, signalling the solos around the band, as well as singing harmonies and taking lead vocals on one song and crosstalk duties on "Charlie".
All in all, it was a very enjoyable gig. Neil's songs are clever and very funny, and he works the crowd superbly.
It was a real pleasure to meet Roger at the end and swap a few steel guitar observations.
If any other UK forumites has the chance to see the Neil Innes tour, I can recommend it very highly.
Cheers
Dave

I'm so glad to hear Roger's tour is going well. He is a world class musician and should be heard as widely as possible.

Go Roger!

I can't tell you how enjoyable this tour is proving to be! The music is diverse, and I'm keeping some distinguished company on stage!!

Best of all is my old friend, Billy Bremner. If you haven't heard Billy singing rock'n'roll then you've missed a treat! His 'Reet Petite' is electifying and it's easy to feel inspired behind such a great singer. That tune has a nice swing feel, and I've been switching between necks on it - it's fun on either!

The worst thing about it all is that it'll all be over come Friday, 17th - who knows when I'll have another chance to play these songs with guys as good as this?

Dave: It was great to meet you and your wife the other night - thanks for coming to see us, and for staying behind for a chat afterwards.

Bob: We did '...Spaceman' and, between Billy and I, turned it into a country tune!!! Billy's a great guitar-player.

Larry: How kind you are; I'm now NOT looking forward to a two-month lay-off before my next gig as I've been so excited about playing on this current venture.

I hope I get to have another visitor or two before the tour ends....(please check the gigs on the web-site below).

Roger, I have a friend who probably would have planned a British vacation around being able to hear that version of "Urban Spaceman"! Throw in "Hunting Tigers" and I'd have been on the plane with him. Too much fun! We used to listen to that stuff incessantly.

Well, I'm back home in Florida after the tour.

We actually finished on 10/17, but I stayed on to catch up with a few old friends.

The tour was a joy - although we didn't make much money!!! The trouble was that we didn't want ANY discomfort to mar the proceedings, so we stayed at the best hotels, paid for enough crew to have everything set-up for us ready for sound-check and to pack the gear at the end of the night. As it was 'our' tour - we took all the money, then paid all the bills - it turns out that our lives won't be changed as a consequence of the adventure Very Happy .....

Neil's a unique performer, and I had particular fun playing alongside Billy Bremner after so many years. Maybe we'll do it again - that's yet to be decided - but we'll get a live CD out of it, because we recorded each song every night; surely there'll be at least ONE good version of everything?!!!

It IS good to be home, though. I've just played golf in perfect weather, and there's two months of leisure-time stretching ahead of me!

Thanks to anyone and everyone who came out to support us....

Keep us posted on the cd Roger - I have a few old cronies who would love to get their hands on it, as would I. I'm afraid we've had our last round of golf for the season up here.

Is this the first Emmons guitar to grace the stage in the Cavern, Liverpool?

This was just at sound-check, but the gig went really well - those Scousers are an enthusiastic bunch!

HAVE A SAFE TRIP, WE ALL LOVE YOU. It"s a little cool foe the front poarch, but we can play in the music room.
