I am putting together a small combo amp from an old Fender Tremolux head, a custom made cab (thanks Rick Johnson!), and a 4 ohm 12" speaher to be determined. I was going to order a wire harness to connect the speaker to the quarter-inch jack on the back of the amp, but balked at the $15 price thinking, "This can't be very difficult or expensive to make myself." Anything stupid I could do to mess up hooking a strand or lamp cord to a quarter inch plug? (If there is, I'm liable to do it if left to my own devices!)

Thanks,

Dan

Dan,

There are just a couple of things to look out for.

1. Polarity, make sure the tip of each 1/4" plug is connected together and the sleeve or grounfd of each is connected together.

2. Check for shorts. Make sure the exposed wires and solder joints don't touch each other. In other words check your work with an ohm meter or some other tester.

3. Insulate. Use shrink tubing over the center connection to insuate it from the ground.

4. Use at least 14 ga wire. 12 is better. I prefer Switchcraft 1/4" plugs.

Best,

RH

I use the reissue Fender "F" cap
and 1/4 angled jack. I even use
the blk/white speaker wire. It makes
it look like it came from the factory.

Its gonna cost a little but its well
worth it.

Post some pics when get it put together

Rick
