Eddie Cunningham won the Massechusetts Country Music Awards Association,(MCMAA), award for Steel Guitar Player of the Year. The Rhode Island Steel Guitar Association is proud to announce that one of its own is the recipient of this prestigious honor. This "Local Ambassador" to the steel guitar could not attend the show because of recent eye surgery, but his band members,(who were winners as well), spoke on his behalf. RISGA also had two other members nominated. They were Roger Trahan and Yours Truly. In addition RISGA`s high endurance bass player, Elaine Ellis, won the Bass Player of the Year award. Once again, congratulations to Elaine and the "Old Geezer" Eddie Cunningham who I recently named the "Old `Bassadore". All kidding aside, I have great respect for you. Manny Escobar |

Last year, in 2007, Eddie roasted me. This year, in 2008, (as Tony Palmer said), he kicked my A$$. |

Congratulations to both Eddie and Elaine, Eddie has been the man many of us have looked up to for years and is truly an icon when it comes to playing the Steel Guitar. I can remember him playing at the Rawhide in No. Darthmouth years ago and playing the prettiest bell tones I'd heard. Before the night was through he clearly explained the technique and I was on me way to making some of my own.
Elaine, you play behind so many people and always add so much to there performances with your outstanding bass playing. This award is truly deserved. I can't think of anyone who gives more of their time to help any and everyone she can.
Both these people are not only great musicians, they are wonderful, down to earth friends as well. This couldn't have happened to two nicer people. God Bless Roger |
